Travelling across London by bus can take a very long time. However, this is a way of sightseeing and can be better than cycling. All types of English people use the London buses but there are only a few Routemasters left (Trafalgar Square to Saint Paul’s). Sir Norman Foster has designed a new version of the Old London Bus. Buy a very expensive lock if you leave your bicycle in a London street. Buy the best lock you can afford. Lock up your bicycle to fixed cycle stands where there are cameras and shoppers. London Underground is faster and also part of seeing London. Remember the Underground is only under ground in the middle. Suburbia can be seen from the District, Central and Metropolitan Lines.

To escape though, out of London to the countryside the railway stations are very quick. Westwards out of Waterloo during the day is best say to Kingston-on-thames or somewhere in Surrey. Generally there are more open spaces west along the river.

Visit the more young left wing East London by cycling through The City and up in to Hackney and continue exploring up tye Lea Valley to Broxbourne. Get the train back to Liverpool Street. Linger in Victoria Park or visit Hackney Marshes. Plan your journey. Do not cycle to a place you cannot get back from before nightfall or is too far and the journey tiring.

But one of these journeys is from Tottenham across Haringey to Highgate and Gospel Oak juction. There you see a lot: Stamford Hill, Muswell Hill, Stoke Newington and Finsbury Park.

Cycle round Docklands and over to Greenwich. Visit Goddard’s Pie and Mash Shop. Carry on the wonderful journey of grain hoppers, parks and jetties to Woolwich.

Even take a ferry cruise to The Thames Barrier.
