Travelling from Jarrow via Newcastle, Derby, Birmingham to Coventry by rail in 1962.

England was Black and White. England was covered in a layer of black soot. These were Steam Railways. Under British Rail steam trains were replaced with diesel and electric trains. Many Main Lines and Branch Lines were closed. The effect of this on The English landscape and cities was substancial. The shape and colour of England changed within a decade.
