The Pre-Rafaelites were the most English Artists. Pre-Rafaelite just means harking back to an idylic world before Rafael, roughly before style. Life for peasants ‘nasty, brutish and short’ but when painted in dreams by artists a golden era before the satanic years of industrial revolution. The Pre-Rafaelites had colonies (villas) in Chelsea and Cheam (tbc) south of Sutton, Surrey, and Hampstead.
