From Heathrow Airport travel by Heathrow Express to Paddington Railway Station. Try and book in to The German YMCA, 35 Craven Terrace, London W2 3EL which is roomy with basement bicycle storage.
The South Coast – Take One Week Cycling 50 to 80 kilometers per day
From Paddington travel to Exmouth and start cycling east. On this route board the train when convenient. The staging post to stay overnight are Lymm Regis, Weymouth, Bournemouth, Ventnor (Isle of Wight) (cycle carriage on hovercraft and Fastcat)(Cycle across Hayling Island via Hayling Island ferry and find the disused railway track on the west side), (either Bognor Regis, Worthing or Brighton), Eastbourne, Hastings, Folkestone, Ramsgate and Margate. Return to London Charing Cross, Blackfriars or Cannon Street. Note Lymm Regis has little accommodation and no railway to escape to so book ahead in Exmouth Tourist Board. Brighton can be full on weekends, especially in summer and bank holidays. Skirt the Tank Range in Dorset. However it is still possible to hug the coast after Weymouth eastwards with map reading and difficult terrain. Worth it to avoid missing Dirdle Door and Lulworth Cove. ‘You’ll be glad you did’.

From King’s Cross visit Cambridge for the day, or Oxford from Paddington. Take the London Underground to Waterloo and train to Hampden Court or Brookwood cemetery. Visit Kew Gardens from Waterloo. From Victoria visit Brighton for the day. Trains from Brighton run back hourly through the night. Some trains go from Brighton to King’s Cross.
